John Cabot, Discoverer of North America
John Cabot was Italian
explorer who discovered North America in 1497. His trip is also considered as a
second trip after Cristopher Colombus.
Like Christopher Columbus, John Cabot have many versions of the name. John
Cabot is a version of the name when he was living in England, Giovani Caboto
was his Italian and Juan Caboto version is the version name in Spain. Born
in Italy, in the city of Venice, but the year is still being debated, but is
expected in 1461.
When in Venice, Cabot worked in trade. He
was involved in the shipping trade one of them cruise to the Eastern
Mediterranean. But
in 1480an Cabot went bankrupt in his effort and left Venice. He moved to a city
in Spain, Valencia. But
he also failed in his business in the town, then he moved to the city of
Sevilla, Spain, and worked on the bridge construction project. After
that Cabot was seeking funding to make the voyage search for a new world.

Cabot finally gained the sponsorship of the English king, Henry VII. Cabot
went to Bristol (a second largest port in the UK) to prepare for the cruise. Cabot
started its first exploration in the summer of 1496. But this first voyage
failed because the ship Cabot experienced supply shortages and bad weather so
he decided fatherly back to England.
A year later John Cabot sailed a second. This
time they were given sufficient supplies of up to seven to eight months. Cabot
ship was filled with men sufficient to make the voyage. Unlike
the first voyage, other than inventories were not enough, Cabot's men at that
time was not good, so mostly just confused at the time of shipping.
The cruise back starting from the port of Bristol in England. They
were passing the area of Ireland and headed to the North Coast of America. Finally
they reached the North Coast United on 24 June 1497. Cabot landing site in
North America are becoming controversial. There
are few places that is expressed as a landing place John Cabot as in Bonavista,
St John's, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Labrador and Maine. But
the British and Canadian government officially declared the first landing Cabot
is in the Bonavista area.
In the regions of North America, John Cabot landing only once. When on land he
was never far from the shore. Distance
mainland that he visited only the size of shooting arrows from the line
pantaidan no more. They
went ashore only to take fresh water and planted the flag of the papacy and the
British royal flag. Cabot
and his crew went home and sampi returned to Bristol on 6 August.
Arriving in England Cabot earned the Great Admiral of the United Kingdom
and he get the money for 10 pounds which is equivalent to the salary of workers
for two years. End
of Cabot are not widely known, many who proclaim that when Cabot set sail
again, but this time for a trade, their ship got stuck and lost at sea. But
some are saying that John Cabot managed to return to England in 1500.
